Abbott, a global, broad-based health care company devoted to the discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals and medical products, including nutritionals, devices and diagnostics recently announced that the European Commission has cleared its proposed acquisition of Guidant's vascular business.

The federal Trade Commission is also at present reviewing the proposed transaction.
