Novartis' Exforge, Under FDA Review As New Drug Against High Blood Pressure

Novartis submitted an new drug application (NDA) to the US FDA for the use of Exforge as a new treatment option for people with high blood pressure. In clinical trials involving more than 5,000 hypertensive patients, a single daily dose of Exforge has been shown to significantly reduce blood pressure. The drug works as a result of its two main ingedients:
  • amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker (CCB) and
  • valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB)

Applications for approval of Exforge in the EU has also been filed earlier this year.
