Schizophrenia is one of the most common psychiatric health disorders that affect an average of one per cent of the world’s population. The most recent methods of treatment can just partially alleviate the symptoms of this disorder but many patients aren’t helped at all.

But there is good news for these patients as research team of Uppsala University and AstaZeneca has previously found about a QKI gene which normally regulates the myelin genes, is a possible contributing cause of the disease schizophrenia.

The understanding of this QKI gene will lead to hopeful drug research and development for schizophrenia.
