All the companies agreed to either build or expand their facilities within the country specifically for the development and production of flu vaccines using cell cultures. This novel technique is different from the conventional method of vaccine production in that it does not rely on chicken eggs for manufacture and allows mass production over a short period of time. The federal pandemic plan targets increasing the country's capacity to manufacture 600 million doses of flu vaccine within six months of a declaration of a flu pandemic.
