
Anacor Pharmaceuticals announced the positive results of the phase 2a study of ANO128, a novel topical anti-inflammatory drug candidate for atopic dermatitis (AD).
Atopic dermatitis, affecting approximately 15 million patients in the
Current standard of care for AD are combinations of antibiotics, antihistamines, topical corticosteroids and topical immunomodulators (TIMs) such as picrolimus and tacrolimus that only attempt to reduce inflammation and itchiness to maintain the protective integrity of the skin. AN0128 inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including TNFalpha, without affecting the normal immune response.
In the study, ANO128 was found to be well tolerated, safe and efficient that warrants further additional studies.
