Advancis Pharma Announces Positive Phase III Trial Results for Once-Daily Amoxicillin PULSYS Against Streptococcal Infections
Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNC) announce positive trial results for its Amoxicillin PULSYS Phase III clinical trial for the treatment of adults and adolescents with pharyngitis/tonsillitis due to Group A streptococcal infections.
Compared to the current treatment regimen requiring 500 mg of amoxicillin three-times daily for 10 days, Amoxicillin PULSYS is a once- daily 775 mg dose taken for 10 days.
If approved for marketing, we believe our once-daily version of amoxicillin would represent a major advance in the most widely used antibiotic in the U.S. and would be the first and only once-daily amoxicillin therapy approved for marketing in the United States."
Not only does the new formulation reduced the total required daily dose, which may have an impact in preventing emergence of resistance, the once-daily formulation may also help boost patient compliance.
