Nabi Biopharmaceuticals (NABI) has obtained exclusive rights to the use of a novel hyperimmune immunoglobulin extraction technology developed by Montreal-based ProMetic Life Sciences, Inc. (PLI) in the production of its hyperimmune products.
Nabi expects that using the technology will provide higher yields of its Civacir, a hepatitis C Immune Globulin, and Altastaph, a Staphylococcus aureus Immune Globulin Intravenous, and possibly other products in development or already in the market.
"The advantage of the ProMetic technology is that it affords Nabi Biopharmaceuticals the ability to maximize the yield of specific immunoglobulins from a liter of hyperimmune plasma, and, as a result, reduces the cost of manufacturing and increases the capacity for production of some its most promising product candidates," stated Raafat Fahim, Ph.D., senior vice president research, technical and production operations, Nabi Biopharmaceuticals.
More details about the agreement from Nabi's press release.
Some financial detials of the deal are described in ProMetic's press release.
