
Amarin Corporation plc (Nasdaq: AMRN) has recently announced the USPTO's approval of its patent application (patent number 7,119,118) covering the use of its proprietary ultra-pure ethyl-EPA compound ("Miraxion") in Huntington's disease.
According to Rick Stewart, CEO of Amarin Corporation plc:
"We believe this patent substantially enhances Miraxion's already significant commercial potential. Amarin has additional patents granted for Miraxion in other central nervous system disorders, such as depression, and has many patents pending for a range of indications.
We are committed to further strengthening our existing intellectual property portfolio to protect the future market for Miraxion."
Miraxion is Amarin's lead development compound under Phase III development for Huntington's disease, Phase II development for depressive disorders and preclinical development for Parkinson's disease.
Amarin Corp. plc is a a neuroscience company focused on the research, development and commercialization of novel drugs for the treatment of central nervous system disorders.
Miraxion for Huntington's disease is currently being developed under a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement with the USFDA and has been granted Fast Track designation by the USFDA and has received Orphan Drug designation in the US and Europe.
