Data analysis from two clinical trial revealed that the success of treatment is associated with mucosal healing in patients with moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC) who received either 2.4 or 4.8 grams of mesalamine per day.

A product of Procter and Gamble (NYSE: PG), mesalamine (Asacol®) Delayed-Release Tablets 400 mg is indicated for the treatment of mildly to moderately active UC (the indicated dosage is two 400 mg tablets tid for 6 weeks) and for the maintenance of remission of UC (the indicated dosage is 1.6 g/day in divided doses).

The said combined data analysis has been presented by University of Chicago researcher David T. Rubin, MD, at the recent annual scientific meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
