
In its recent financial update, Denmark-based Bavarian Nordic A/S (CPH: BAVA) reported that it is in continuous dialogue with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officials on the company’s submitted proposal to supply the government with its Imvamune® smallpox vaccine under the Project BioShield program.
Though intensive efforts are on-going to conclude this process, the timing of the award decision is not known.
The group of immune-compromised persons includes children and the elderly, persons with eczema, and those with compromised immune systems from HIV/AIDS, and other conditions.
At its current level, Bavarian Nordic has the capacity and manpower to manufacture, release and deliver Imvamune® smallpox vaccines to governments in a short timeframe.

Being developed for immune-compromised persons who may experience serious side-effects from the traditional vaccine currently stockpiled by the U.S. government, Imvamune® smallpox vaccine is based on patented technology called MVA-BN® and has already completed industrial manufacturing optimization process thereby resulting in a further increase in batch yields.
