Schering AG, Germany (NYSE: SHR)’s Betaferon® (interferon beta-1b) has been granted expanded indication by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration to include patients with a first clinical event suggestive of multiple sclerosis (MS).
The said approval provides an important treatment option for Australian patients to reduce the risk of developing clinically definite MS (CDMS), and therefore offers the potential to delay the progression of the disease.
Betaferon® has been granted (earlier this year) the marketing authorization in Europe, the United States and Canada for the treatment of patients with a first clinical event suggestive of multiple sclerosis.
