TorreyPines Therapeutics and Eisai Co., Ltd. Extended Collaboration Agreement on Alzheimer's Disease
Since February 2005, TorreyPines Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: TPTX) and Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO: 4523) have been in exclusive collaborative agreement focused on discovery of novel, small molecules for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
The two companies have recently agreed to extend that standing collaboration in order to discover novel Alzheimer's disease modifying compounds based on the study of the mechanism of the disease's pathogenesis.
According to Neil Kurtz, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of TorreyPines:
"We are excited about extending this agreement with Eisai, a leader in Alzheimer's disease research and treatment. We look forward to advancing the small molecule program further with Eisai's support, as well as to continuing to work with them on our initial research collaboration to identify genetically-validated pharmaceutical targets for Alzheimer's disease."
