PEGINTRON™ is administered once weekly at an individualized dose according to a patient's weight and is the only pegylated interferon indicated in China for a 24 week treatment duration in the hepatitis B patient population.
In the United States, PEGINTRON™ is indicated for use alone or with ribavirin for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in patients with compensated liver disease (who have not been previously treated with interferon alpha and who are at least 18 years of age) and is NOT approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.
The Chinese regulatory approval followed positive clinical data of a multicenter trial in e-antigen positive chronic hepatitis B patients in China.
