I ran across this great marketing site that was discussing the problems that pharmaceutical companies seem to be encountering when advertising on the web. Seems that an estimated $2.2 billion USD will be spent on online advertising by the pharma and health care industries by 2011 however, a market research report last week that what these industries are doing now is not working.
"Some of the trouble is self-induced, and some is caused by market and regulatory forces, a change in congressional leadership and just plain bad luck" states the report form eMarketer.
The report offers a host of suggestions and underlines that the biggest weakness the pharma companies have is their previous focus being on "selling" the doctors to prescribe their medications. It is suggested that they now have to broaden their approach to include patients in their target market.
