Researchers at the Universite Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg, France
have found that Concord grape juice aids in the production of nitric oxide in endothelial cells which provides a vasoralaxation effect. Nitric acid is important to the body's natural system for maintaining healthy blood vessels and blood pressure. The researchers found that concord grape juice produces this relaxation effect which is the same as the effect produced by red wine consumption. The difference, however, is that the effect of the grape juice lasts up to six hours. This prolonged effect has not been found in tests on red wine. The research suggests that it the grape, not the alcohol, that elicits the relaxation effect.
