
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and the American Diabetes Association will be highlighting a different facet of the illness every week of the month.
Many Faces of Diabetes
- Week 1: Caregivers. ADA will offer resources and information to those that take care of those diagnosed with diabetes.
- Week 2: Employees. Promotion of healthy lifestyles in the workplace can prevent type 2 diabetes, save lives and save companies money.
- Week 3: Diabetes around the world. Motivating people to fight diabetes through public awareness and the development of policies for the prevention, treatment and care of those with diabetes.
- Week 4: At-risk populations. Raising awareness of the trend that indicates minorities are at high risk of developing diabetes
- Week 5: Youth and Type-1 Diabetes. Promotion of resources and information for children with type-1 diabetes and their families
Diabetes has no cure and is the 5th leading cause of death by disease. Awareness can prevent the development of type 2 diabetes and save lives. At present 1 in 4 Americans has diabetes or is at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It is one of the fastest growing health issues of the 21st century.
