EarlySense Ltd. announced that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for its ES-16 system. The system monitors heart and respiratory rates in adults and children with contact-free sensor.
The contact free sensor does not physically connect to the patient yet provides passive, continuous monitoring. The proprietary sensing unit is placed under the patient's mattress, mattress pad or cover and continuously records heart and respiratory rates. The Control unit logs and analyzes the data from the signals it receives from the sensor.![]()
"Hospitals and other healthcare providers are facing a growing challenge in treating older and sicker patients. Such providers are looking for technological solutions that allow them to increase the quality of care and improve patient safety without adding to already stretched budgets and manpower. We have addressed this need with a smart monitoring solution that facilitates the improvement of patient safety and nursing efficiencies," said EarlySense CEO Mr. Avner Halperin.
The system is intended to reduce patient discomfort and provide cost-effective, continuous monitoring is places such as hospitals, homes and long term care facilities. EarlySense is currently evaluating the system for use with patients suffering from asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and CHF (congenital heart failure).
