Would You Undergo a Fecal Transplant?

Picture this: you're sick, VERY, VERY sick. You could die. The doctor tells you that there is a treatment that could cure you. You're thinking "Bring it on, what are you waiting for?" Then you're told the treatment is a Fecal Transplant.

GROSS!!!!

Fecal bacteriology, fecal transfusion, fecal transplant or human probiotic infusion are all names for the the same thing: the bacteria from a healthy person's feces transferred into the large bowel or rectum of the patient. (have I mentioned gross?)

EnemaThe procedure is relatively simple. It is a 5 to 10 treatment in which enemas, made of bacterial flora from the feces of a healthy person, are administered to the sick person in a hospital environment. This procedure has been used to treat cases of c. difficile, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. The theory is that these illnesses have been caused by a virus that has destroyed the healthy flora that is normally present in the colon and the infusion of donated healthy flora cures the bacterial imbalance in the patient.

I think most people would be willing to undergo the procedure but I highly doubt that they would be bragging about it in bars or around the supper table afterwards.

What do you think?

This article is full of dung!

Personally, I don't give a s**t though.

Who thinks up this crap?

To anyone who thinks a fecal transplant is gross, you have never walked in the shoes of someone who has C. difficile infections, therefore, ignoramus Shut Up. C. diff is gross, you can loose control of your bowel with constant diarrhea and pain for the rest of your life. Ask nursing staffs in hospital and nursing homes how gross it is to clean up after these patients.

After emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix and twisted intestine, I got c-diff infection. This is a very debilitating infection with a 1 in 4 chance of re-occurrence for the rest of my life. I waste whole mornings and other times during the day doubled with stomach pain in the bathroom. C-diff has changed my life, limited restaurants, travel, vacations and just being productive person. This is not who I was, energetic, etc.

In a heartbeat I will attempt to get a fecal transplant even if I have to leave the country to get it (I remember when you had to go to Canada to obtain microscopic surgery for a hernia, now done throughout the U.S.). Why is the U.S. so behind the times? The fecal transplant is known to be 95% successful. It is not covered by my insurance, but I am willing to go into debt to get my life back.

This treatment really does work! The sucess rate is 95%!! It's not easy, but you can do this treatment from home as long as you have people that are willing to help you. There are support groups that you can get info from and you can find instructions online. You don't have to leave the country or go into debt!

My mother contracted C. diff after having an internal IV for 5 weeks. C. diff has changed her life. It makes her weak so she cannot walk and she is tired all the time. She has been in an out of the hospital and rehab centers (aka nursing homes) fighting C. diff.

There are no doctors in my area that will do this treatment, so my sisters and I took it upon ourselves. Treatment is recommended 5 times for best results. After 2 treatments, she was walking around the house, doing things that she has not done since she got this horrible illness! It truly seems like a miracle.

The antibiotics used to treat C. diff just don't work for a lot of people. I would try the antibiotics first, but when they don't work and your running out of options, this can literally save your life!

A fecal transplant is probably the most disgusting thing you could ever imagine, but when you love someone, you will go to ANY length to get them better.

This has been to an answer to months of prayers (and thats coming from a person that is not big into religion). Anyone that has been struggling with C. diff, I'm very sorry and wish you the best of luck!!!
