
Sanofi-aventis (EPA: SAN), the U.K based pharmaceutical, was rated #5 in overall sales and 4th on the list of top R&D spenders in 2006. Sanofi has has trouble over the last year with its drug Acomplia failing to get U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval and its Alzheimer's drug, Xaliproden, failing in late-stage trials but it has several vaccines lined up and of the 48 drugs in late-stage trials, it expects to file for approval on 31 of them by the end of 2010.
